Julie Lehrman is a Founding Member of North Star Attorney Search.  A Legal Recruiter since 2008, Julie has facilitated mergers, placed groups, partners, and associates with law firms and companies throughout the world.  She regularly helps clients learn about and choose among firms, negotiates offers, writes partner business plans, helps attorneys brush up on interview skills, partners with attorneys in resume drafting and revision, deal sheets, and more. Her broad experience in recruiting and her history practicing law make her an invaluable resource in helping her candidates navigate the many available career choices facing them.  Julie is a frequent speaker and writer on topics relating to careers, interviewing, and the legal landscape.

In addition to her 15+ years as a legal recruiter, Julie was a Labor and Employment Associate at Baker & McKenzie in Chicago and a Litigation Associate at Goodwin Procter in Washington, D.C., as well as an in-house attorney with the National Treasury Employees’ Union in its National Headquarters. She also spent time as a Career Counselor at the John Marshall Law School, where she guided students toward personally-tailored career decisions.

Julie earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where she served as a Senior Editor on The Georgetown Law Journal.  After law school, Julie served as a Judicial Law Clerk on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.  Her B.A. is from Washington University in Saint Louis, where she double-majored in French and Comparative Literature.

My experience working with Julie could not have been better. I wasn’t just looking to make a move from San Francisco to Chicago; I also wanted to go to a firm that fit my skill-set. Julie understood that and tailored her approach accordingly. She was ultra-responsive and routinely kept me update, even when the update was that she hadn’t heard back yet but was going to follow up. She also helped me prepare for my interview and then, after I received my offer, she worked with the recruiting department at the firm to clarify the precise terms of the offer and relocation package. Very pleased.
— Corporate Associate, San Francisco
Julie was the consummate professional in assisting me with my job search. She was always available end even came up with creative ways to maximize possible opportunities. The creativity led to advice on reaching out to a firm she did not represent, which ended up being the best fit. Julie’s dedication to her prospective placement clients is unparalleled and her drive to place individuals with the proper fit, surpassed her own interests. I highly recommend Julie for any attorney seeking a new position.
— Litigation Partner, Detroit
I had a great experience working with Julie throughout my lateral move. She listened to the personal reasons I wanted to make a change, the short list of cities I was willing to entertain, the specific categories of technology I wanted to work with, and the type of practice I was seeking. With diligence and swift communication, she found me the opportunity I was looking for in a supportive and very successful IP group, the same large firm environment I was accustomed to, but now with the practice, clients, and technology that keeps me engaged and enthusiastic every day. This has been the transition I have considered for years and I thank you for your efforts!
